Roofman is a 2025 crime-drama directed by Derek Cianfrance, telling the remarkable true story of Jeffrey Manchester, played by Channing Tatum. The film follows Manchester, a former Army veteran and father who turns to robbing fast-food restaurants by entering through their roofs — a method that earns him the nickname “Roofman.” After years of successful heists, he’s eventually captured, only to pull off a bold prison escape and secretly take up residence inside a Toys “R” Us. There, under a new identity, he builds a quiet life and even begins forming meaningful connections, including with a local single mother. As his lies begin to close in on him, the movie blends thriller tension with emotional depth, exploring themes of identity, desperation, and the complicated hope for redemption.
Despite the story’s tense, crime-driven backdrop, Channing Tatum and Kirsten Dunst bring a grounded, believable warmth to their scenes together. Their chemistry isn’t flashy or overly romantic — instead, it feels natural and understated, showing two lonely people cautiously learning to trust one another. The way they play off each other adds emotional weight to the film, making Manchester’s double life feel even more fragile and heightening the audience’s connection to both characters.
Roofman is a refreshing blend of a heist film and a romantic comedy. Tatum and Dunst both deliver wonderful performances that make it one of the funniest rom coms of the year.
