The Book of Boba Fett Review

' The Book of Boba Fett takes place immediately after the events of The Mandalorian season two finale; Boba and Fennec have solidified their position as the new daimyo of Mos Espa after killing Jabba the Hutt. Boba spends long hours in the Bacta tank recovering from battle damage while spending limited time showing face and solidifying relationships throughout Mos Espa. While in the Bacta tank, we are shown many flashback moments that fill in the blanks and tell us what Boba was up to for the five years after the Sarlacc pit. Without his armor and his ship, Boba lived with the Tuskans, trained with them and learned to live a new life without being the galaxy's greatest bounty hunter. This backstory was crucial to understanding who Boba is right now, a man who very rarely wears his helmet. After the death of the Tuskans, he reverted to his past self to seek out revenge but then was left a man with an identity crisis.  Aft...

Belfast Film Review

'Belfast' takes us back to Northern Ireland in the late '60s, where the feud between Catholics and Protestants is constant, especially in the mixed-religion neighborhood where this multigenerational family that the film follows resides. We get to see these tumultuous times all through the eyes of Buddy (Jude Hill), the youngest son of the family, who is trying to make sense of all that is happening. The family is struggling to get by, and caught between a feud in their neighborhood with a segment of other protestants, who want the family to fight against the Catholics instead of living together in harmony with them. Through the hard work of the father, an opportunity presents itself for the family to be able to leave their home in pursuit of greener pastures, and the plot revolves around all of these events and decisions that they face.  The story always has something going on and will keep audiences interested enough, but wha...

Fast 9 Film Review

Spoiler-Free Review for Fast 9!!! The Fast Saga is like a soap opera. It has overstayed its welcome, and the only way to progress in the story is to come up with more ridiculous plots to top the previous film. The series has become so stale by repeating two simple things; casting big names to introduce as new villains only to turn them into heroes in the next film and by bringing people back from the dead to rebuild the family. This film did not even try to hide these plot points and used the return of Han as a marketing tactic. The predictable formula continues with the casting of John Cena as the main adversary who also happens to be Dom's brother. This lazy attempt to fill in the timeline by trying to add emotion to the plot falls flat and is only useful as a reminder that after 9 films, we are only just now learning about Dom's past.  I could bash the crazy action sequences for hours but at this point, they are one of the m...

Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard Film Review

The Hitman's Wife's Bodyguard is exactly what you expect it to be after the first installment, attempting to add more action, ridiculousness, and witty banter between the big-name actors. Ryan Reynolds is always in his element when playing a comedic action star, and paired again with the badass Samuel L. Jackson, they never fail to disappoint in their delivery of vulgar dialogue, or clearing out a room full of bad guys. The critical addition to this sequel was bringing Sonia Kincaid (Salma Hayek) into focus, who manages to even outdo the big personalities of her husband Darius (Jackson) and Michael Bryce (Reynolds), with her over-the-top hilarious performance, which is sure to keep anyone engaged. Who would have thought such a superbly foul-mouthed loose cannon character who constantly has sex on their mind would be fun to watch :) The plot itself is almost incoherent and I struggle to find the words to even explain it, so I won't go into...

Wrath of Man Review

Looking for a movie to watch? Well then, see the review below for my choice of the most thrilling movie from the past week!!! Wrath of Man gives us an action-filled Jason Statham revenge adventure, combined with the classic multi-character story approach which we all love from Guy Ritchie. Statham plays H (short for Hill), a mysterious new armored truck security guard, who proves to have some unconventional skills when it comes to stopping robberies. Ritchie uses this main character and a slew of other characters, along with several flashbacks, to piece together this slow-burn narrative. The story features a darker tone and is mostly driven by these sinister characters, which at times seemed too stoic for my liking, but overall it still managed to continually capture my attention with its excellent pacing and direction. A key addition to the building up of tension throughout the film was the fantastic cinematography. It perfectly framed th...

Mr. Right Film Review

Mr. Right pulled me in with a great trailer and a fantastic cast including Sam Rockwell, Anna Kendrick, and Tim Roth but unfortunately, the film did not live up to my expectations. Sam Rockwell plays a conflicted hitman named Francis, who's trying to change his ways by killing the men who hire him instead. He meets a girl named Martha, played by Anna Kendrick, and the two fall in love instantly. This attempt at love, at first sight, did not come off the way it was intended and to me, felt rushed and unnatural. I really enjoyed the first 20ish minutes of the movie as we are introduced to all of the characters. I was laughing at every joke and felt the pacing was quite good, but things began to change as soon as the two stars met. Their dialogue, specifically Anna's, felt flustered at times and much more adlibbed. Francis is surprisingly honest with Martha right away and spills the tea when he does something wrong but Martha always just laughs it ...

Godzilla vs. Kong Film Review

Godzilla versus Kong is the action movie we have been longing for since all major blockbuster films pushed back their release dates. After three solo films between Kong and Godzilla, we finally see the two titans clash on film for the first time in what is the culmination of the Universal Monsterverse. The story is split nicely in two as team Kong and team Godzilla each have their own mission. Team Kong is on a secret mission to the center of the earth to uncover the mystery of the titans. This team consists of Dr. Nathan, Dr. Ilene, Maia, and the Youngest character in the film, Jia. Team Godzilla consists of Madison, Josh, and Bernie who are also on a secret mission, to infiltrate Apex Cybernetics with the theory that they are up to no good and are the reason why Godzilla has been acting up recently. The dynamics of the teams are well balanced as the Kong story provides us with serious and more action-heavy bits in contrast to the Apex team story that ...
